Disney is teaming up with Oriental Land Co. (OLC), the operator of Tokyo Disneyland, to launch a brand new Disney cruise line in Japan.
The new cruise line is expected to set sail by early 2029.
Oriental Land Co. will be building & operating the Disney-branded cruise business.
The ship will be a sister ship to the Disney Wish and will include everyone’s favorite Disney Cruise Line experiences with certain adjustments for Japanese guests.
The chairman of Disney Experiences “Josh D’Amaro” said that:
“Disney Cruise Line has ambitious plans to bring family vacations and Disney storytelling to more guests worldwide than ever. We are thrilled to continue the success of this expansion as we collaborate with Oriental Land Co. to introduce another distinctly Disney vacation experience to families and fans in Japan”.
Yumiko Takano, the representative director, chairperson & CEO of Oriental Land said that:
“I am sincerely proud that Disney and Oriental Land will be able to work together to create a world-class cruise business in Japan. Oriental Land will use their know-how from the theme park business to continue pushing boundaries and provide family entertainment cruise experiences filled with inspiration and surprise.”
In the year 2022, Disney Cruise Line launched Disney Wish, the first new ship in a decade and the first that operates on LNG dual-fuel, (with lower emissions). Disney Wish is in the same fleet as Disney Magic, Disney Fantasy, Disney Dream, & Disney Wonder.
The new cruise liner will be based in Japan all year round and will be registered in the country of Japan.
The ship will be built by Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany with designs by Walt Disney Imagineering.
This new venture is an increase in an existing relationship between Disney and OLC which has been partners for 40 years. This is part of Disney’s strategy to expand this cruise line business around the world.
It will be around 140,000 gross ton ship, LNG-powered, with about 1250-some staterooms.
The Disney Cruise Line fleet travels to many exciting places such as The Bahamas, the Caribbean, Europe, Alaska, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, the South Pacific, Australia, and New Zealand. Starting in 2025, they will also offer cruises from Singapore all year long.
The launch of this new cruise line is likely to attract a significant number of people from Japan as well as international tourists in Japan.
