According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), 4th July 2024 is going to be the busiest Independence Day ever. They predict that 70.9 million people will be traveling 50 miles or more from home, which will exceed the pre-pandemic numbers by 8%.
That means there will be a lot of traffic on the roads and in the air. AAA forecasts that over 60 million people will travel by car. If you are going to drive, it is a good idea to leave before 10:00 a.m. so you do not get stuck in heavy traffic.
And 5.74 million people will travel by air and nearly over 4 million people will travel by using other means of transportation such as cruises, ships & trains. The good news is that domestic flights are slightly cheaper than last year, approximately about $800 for a roundtrip ticket.
Triple A suggests avoiding travel between 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM when roads will be fully jammed with traffic. It would be very helpful to use real-time traffic updates or navigation apps to avoid busy roads or to plan an alternative route.
If you travel on July 4th and come back the next Tuesday, you can save up to 32% of the cost as compared to a Wednesday-Sunday trip.
You can also save money on travel deals this independence, so make sure to check for special discounts and sales at various travel websites such as Expedia and Booking.com.
